Islam is no laughing matter

Cartoons dinamarqueses sobre Maomé

Islam is no laughing matter. The Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten is being protected by security guards and several cartoonists have gone into hiding after the newspaper published a series of twelve cartoons about the prophet Muhammad. According to the Islam it is blasphemous to make images of the prophet. Muslim fundamentalists have threatened to bomb the paper’s offices and kill the cartoonists.

I'm an America in the US. Last night I hung out with an Iranian international student. I asked him if he was offended by the cartoons. He said "no! I thought they were funny!" We had a thought provoking talk about free speech. He is glad to be in an enviroment which he can experience thinking for himself and expressing himself freely. So do I. I appreciate the cartoons because they have a message that needs to be told.

Mas de onde é que esta gente toda está a aparecer?

Freedom is not a right it is a priviledge as long as you use it with full responsibility. By provoking the Islamic world, i wonder what that Danish cartoonist achieved? Defending the irresponsible freedom of this cartoonist is a crime itself, because no wise human being would think of provoking 1/3 of the world population and expect no reaction. Any nation supporting this guy's freedom is just as guilty.

By the way, I wonder if Danish manufacturers really support this cartoonist rights, when all Danish products will be boycotted by the mojority of muslims worldwide. I am boycotting all Danish products even here in the USA. And i have nothing against the Danish people, but they should stand up to what is right. Some people might support him in the beginning, but the reality when it them when they are effected economically within few weeks.

I am a Dane! And I think it is right, that the press may publish whatever they want.

We will survive a boycot. We have our own oil and we will happily make the offer of a marginally lower export. The price will be paid by all the people in the Middle East employed by Danish companies. In Denmark effect will be very limited.

And Arkie, do you know why the cartoons were printed? It was because of Muslims killing van Gogh in Holland, and the consequence that it was impossible for a Danish writer of children books to get a painter to illustrate the life of Muhammed.

I think the reality is much harder for the Middle East. I do not hope it ends this way, but a possible consequence is that muslims are not welcome in Europe. And the oil rosources are not unlimited!

EU is opening up to Eastern Europe including Ukraine, Belarus and Russsia. We will do fine without the Muslim countries; but we will do better together!

So - my message is: Why not calm down; let's find a way out of this without burning emassies and threatening Danish, Norwegigan, Swedish, French, Icelandic, Polish, Hunagrian, German, Italian, New Zealandish, Greenalndish, Jordanish etc. people (countries who have published the cartoons).

Definitivamente, é a internacionalização. Alguém quer dizer alguma coisa a esta malta?

What Would Jesus Do?: Picture this: A cartoon of Jesus, with his pants down, smiling, raping a little boy. The caption above it reads “Got Catholicism?” : I wonder if people around the world would just consider this free speech?

- Amei! E tu? Hamas?
(bonequinho de óculos)

clap, clap,

Pic of Muslims,

Damn you guys.....
Denmark damn you...
Don't try to make a war with moeslem, b'coz moeslem can erase all you, JAHUDI!!!

To anonymous:

"What Would Jesus Do?: Picture this: A cartoon of Jesus, with his pants down, smiling, raping a little boy. The caption above it reads “Got Catholicism?” : I wonder if people around the world would just consider this free speech?"

YES!!!! 1000 times YES! And it's funny! I like it. I've written worst stuff than that about Jesus, his mommy and daddy and noone will come, like a neanderthal, burn my house and try to hurt me or kill me. Freedom of speech is a right of western society and, apparently, we'll have to fight for it all over again.

Damn. I hate getting up in the morning... 0_o

People make jokes about Christianity all the time. To me this is just expressing an opion. I can understand people being a bit pissed off, but not to the extent of violence. Its over the top. There are too many extremists out there. And the fact that people have threatened to kill the cartoonists over some cartoons? .. Well that highlights that there is a hot issue out there that people want to write articles about and express their opion in cartoon doesn't it!
I think people need to chill out.
An atheist.

I hope who ever did those cartoons gets what they deserve.

Ayla M:
And that is?

Monty, eu rspondo.

Festinhas no cabelo e cóceguinhas na barriguinha.
- Lindo menino, lindo cartoonista! Liiiiindo!

Sweets, they deserve sweets. Lot's of them! And a nice friendly hug!

I just wonder whether the cartoonist would have dared to draw any thing that makes fun of Jewish? In case he does, I am sure that he would have been asked to apologize in the very next day and he would have lost his job. Please don't pretend it's freedom of speech!! All religions may have certain things that non believers would find it difficult to understand, but this doesn’t mean provoking and offending. We can always say what we want to say in a friendly way or let’s say in a “ British way” rather than in a provoking way.

I allways remember Alexey Sayle, making fun of christians. And that was on channel four, ages ago. It was tough humour on christians, and there were no protests. People are becoming too conservative and politically correct. That's annoying.

I think its crazy for people to be worried about offending each other.
Dont you think the red necks would have been offended if you told them that racisim against black people is wrong?
Dont you think the Nazis would have beeen offended if you told them persicution of Jews was wrong?

Offending people can be fine.
In some cases its hard to tell if it is a good or bad thing.

Saying something that is not true is wrong.
Propaganda.
Slanda.

There is not a lot left to say if we are scared of *offending* each other!
People can take offence at almost anything!

But it seems crazy that Susana is worried about "offending" people, when extremists are threatening to *kill* the people the did the cartoons.

These cartoons were a response to people being too scared to draw illustrations for a childrens book! Can you see why?
The response of drawing Muhummad with devil horns etc is pretty immature I think, but does not deem killing these people!?
It makes you think doesnt it?
That people *are* extreme and crazy?

don't get me wrong, anonymous, that is precisely my point: one may not like to be offended, but I'm for freedom of speech.
what i said was that we are pretty relaxed about jokes concerning jesus, the pope, mary, etc; why the fuss, whenever it comes to muslims? (fear, perhaps, dressed up as hypocritical concern?)

danish and norwigs
will regret it dats for sure

Opps, sorry Susana, I meant to say Zeina..

Dont these people that make all these threats have anything better to do with their time? Dont get me wrong, I dont like the cartoons personally, but all these threats and people taking themselves so seriously makes them look arrogant, and quite crazy.
I can understand teenagers feeling really pasionate about stuff, coz thats what they do, but these people need some sense of perspective.
They are just cartoons.

Its not like Americans coming over after a cease fire and killing tones of Iraqis years ago, or terrorists blowing up the twin tours, or hitler exterminating millions of Jews.
This doesnt deem killing someone for.
Or getting that upset about.
Lets get it in perspective.
They are just offensive cartoons.

btw, I come from New Zealand.
(though I live in Europe)
In New Zealand I have jewish, muslim, catholic, christian, and hindi friends.
People generally get along.
Its one of the most peaceful places in the world.
Croats and Serbs are friends.
Iraqis and Iranians live right next to each other.
I guess when you live as far away as NZ you realise what you do have in common with each other.
My muslim friends back home, though would be upset (I havent spoken to them about this), would not be aggresive. And I have a great deal of respect for them. They are lovely lovely people.

Why cant people just chill out and get a bit of tollarence?

If people have your religion all wrong, dont make it worse by getting all aggressive.

Prove them wrong!

They need educating.

Violence reinforces peoples incorrect views.

- Kiwi Atheist.

Well, not big deal they got what they created.

Parabéns João, pela coragem!

Ó amigo Sancho, isto não é coragem.

Stupid Islamists....
All Islamists move out of Europe !!!
Why do you live in Europe if you dont like it's laws and freedoms ???? Europe is democratic and anyone can draw what he wants!!!

afixado por, i think you are stupid,

I am amaze how many Muslims are reacting to the silly Danish cartoons of Muhammad. There are many Cartoon Columnist making fun of Jesus Christ and Jews all the time. But, you don't see them creating chaos or willing to commit murder in a primitive barbaric manner, they act civilized. The true values of a Peaceful religion has not been practiced.

Who gives a shit!!!

I don't want to steal the thread... Just can't resist temptation to post what I've found while browsing Yahoo! News forums.
Have a look and comment on this...

...A Letter to Mankind

Dear fellow human,

Today humanity is being challenged. Unthinkable
atrocities take place on daily basis. There is an evil
force at work that aims to destroy us. The agents of
this evil respect nothing; not even the lives of
children. Every day there are bombings, every day
innocent people are targeted and murdered. It seems as
if we are helpless. But we are not!

The ancient Chinese sage Sun Zi said, "Know your enemy
and you won't be defeated". Do we know our enemy? If
we don't, then we are doomed.

Terrorism is not an ideology, it is a tool; but the
terrorists kill for an ideology. They call that
ideology Islam.

The entire world, both Muslims and non-Muslims claim
that the terrorists have hijacked "the religion of
peace" and Islam does not condone violence.

Who is right? Do the terrorists understand Islam
better, or do those who decry them? The answer to this
question is the key to our victory, and failure to
find that key will result in our loss and death will
be upon us. The key is in the Quran and the history of
Islam.

Those of us, who know Islam, know that the
understanding of the terrorists of Islam is correct.
They are doing nothing that their prophet did not do
and did not encourage his followers to do. Murder,
rape, assassination, beheading, massacre and sacrilege
of the dead "to delight the hearts of the believers"
were all practiced by Muhammad, were taught by him and
were observed by Muslims throughout their history.

If truth has ever mattered, it matters most now! This
is the time that we have to call a spade a spade. This
is the time that we have to find the root of the
problem and eradicate it. The root of Islamic
terrorism is Islam. The proof of that is the Quran.

We are a group of ex-Muslims who have seen the face of
the evil and have risen to warn the world. No matter
how painful the truth may be, only truth can set us
free. Why this much denial? Why so much obstinacy? How
many more innocent lives should be lost before YOU
open your eyes? A nuclear disaster is upon us. This
will happen. It is not a question of "if" but "when".
Oblivious of that, the world is digging its head
deeper in the sand.

We urge the Muslims to leave Islam. Stop with excuses,
justifications and rationalizations. Stop dividing
mankind into "us" vs. "them" and Muslims vs. Kafirs.
We are One people, One mankind! Muhammad was not a
messenger of God. It is time that we end this insanity
and face the truth. The terrorists take their moral
support and the validation for their actions from you.
Your very adherence to their cult of death is a nod of
approval for their crimes against humanity.

We also urge the non-Muslims to stop being politically
correct lest they hurt the sensitivities of the
Muslims. To Hell with their sensitivities! Let us save
their lives, and the lives of millions of innocent
people.

Millions, if not billions of lives will be lost if we
do nothing. Time is running out! "All it takes for
evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing." Do
something! Send this message to everyone in your
address book and ask them to do the same. Defeat Islam
and stop terrorism. This is your world, save it.

If I were to walk on a protest march through the local streets of say the UK like we have just witnessed saying death to the Muslims for 9/11 or 7/7 etc do you think I would be arrested for racial hatred?

I am a muslim who could have understanding of the protests made right or wrong. I mean I believe I have an objective point of view.
I see protesters on media, firing embassies, injuring or even killing people who are againest the cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammed. Then, I wanted to look different thoughts by reading non-muslim opinions on this webpage. I only found one may be out of 20 opinions stating that publication of cartoons are wrong. On democratic platform, I think those people are equal stage of mind with those wild muslim protesters on televisions now. What I wanted to say, I invite people to read this letter and open up their point of view and mind. Don't put all muslims in a catagorie of terorists. Then, you would create religious racism. Try to look other people's or nations points. This must be the place where democrasy survives. I don't want to read one close idea repeating itself on every writing in a democratic cauntries's peoples's writings. Otherwise, they are equal to people of nondemocratic countries's like Afghanistan, Iran, etc.

Every Muslim people in the world don't have an understading of making a kind of fun of their Prophet with 12 cartoons. They don't have to have any kind of undestanging and open mind like that. This is religion not a democracy and nobody have to play with your religion by publishing those pictures...

What I find offensive is that people are rioting and dying over what - a cartoon? Another dark mark for humanity. What’s next Nazi book burning, restore the Spanish inquisition…. reopen the Roman coliseum for live executions.

I thought Muhammad’s main message was love and forgiveness. This is not righteous anger but insanity and wholesale evil.

The more pissed the muslimes get the more cartoons you'll see printed and made. This just shows whom is the trouble makers of the world!

good jod now the danish people can be hated also just like being an american good job

we share the same world.so, who do you think will gain something out of this provocation?we r all friends.don't limit yourself to religion. Please cool down...from turkey with love.

and you bubba why do you try to provocate people?will you gain anything?

As an American I believe in Free Speech! And besides, some of these cartoons are funny. Lighten up Islam!

I think it's ironic that Europe killed their peaceful assimilationist Jewish minority and ended up with Islamists....

Thank you. I finally got to see what all the fuss is about.

Love muslims, but we don't need to accept their ideologies.

Gross pics aren't acceptable no matter what religion u come from.

Its offensive having pics of Jesus or Buddha doing obscene acts. Fact is, NONE of these pics are obscene!! Apologies necessary for some of them, but the others are just showing the situation for what it is, the reality... does that merit death and destruction??

Maybe 'peaceful Islam' has a different definition of peace to what we know.

Maybe we should stop defending Islam as 'peaceful' but realise that it THIS IS Islam. Obviously not all muslims are believe or act like this, but this behaviour is an element of Islam, take it or leave it.. actually, better yet, read the Koran!! The original version and not the tailored down ones we find at the bookstore.

Islam is starting to show its true colours...
Love Muslims, but take a stand against the consequences of their ideas - their ideas which have a different right and wrong to the Judeo-Christian right and wrong on which our societies are based.

I have nothing against Islam, the Quran or Allah. Does any forbid the right to an opinion? If it helps (highly offended muslim people who can read this) you can draw cartoons of my God. How about that? A holy war of cartooning!

Fortunately for many the Muslim boycott of Danish goods wont affect the highly successful Danish pork industry.

And when is "international day of anger?" Should I send a card? Wear a blood red ribbon perhaps? It's getting cold, somebody put another flag on the fire.

One disadvantage brought by the internet is the dissemination of misinformation and predjudice. This is particularly useful to those who seek power. But the ones who believe the lies, the ones who are controlled, are controlled are the ones who's lives are shit - the weak.
(Ref. all wars.) No doubt there are injustices but reacting with hatred against the ignorant just helps those who are controlling them.

No offence meant. Just expressing opinions!

Death to Islam, and all the islamic dogs, oops sorry with due respect to the dogs... roaches! If we have to respect your barbaric laws in your countries you must respect our superior ones here, why should you impose your laws to all the world? I know because you want the world but before you will perish like bugs...

Não vejo a hora de nos darem carta branca para podermos voltar a decepar as cabeças dos sarracenos! Poderiamos começar por aueles que temos aqui à mão na Europa...
Viva a civilização, abaixo o Islão!

I am an Australian and am living in Europe.
I have many muslim friends back home and believe what these dains have published is unexceptable. I too would get upset if someone made fun of my beliefs.
You say what these people are doing is wrong, look what us 'peaceful' christians did with our 'holy' wars and barbaric slaughterings!! You say their Quran sends messages of violance and hate, the views of christians meant the death of millions of people. What religion do you think Hitler was?!

I agree that violance is not the answer, but the western society has had many riots become violant too. This is something that is very important to these people, beliefs usually are, so why don't the Danish people and government just say sorry, is that so much to ask, in their hearts i'm sure they know this is wrong. people usually don't give such a big fit unless they know deep down it's wrong!

Dear D Afonso 'australian living in europe'

By the way Hitler (an extremely twisted man) worked to abolish the church in Germany, he was no christian and had a picture of him placed on the alter insted of a bible (does that not say something). Just because he was a white European it does not make him Christian. Your comment is incorrect and I am correcting it.

And also...the Islamic early military expansions led to a christian retaliation - not that it was rightly justified on either side. Do you think Spain chose to be occupied by Islam up until the 14th century? Attrocities have been commited on both sides for atleast millenia. I don't like this feeling of looking at the west as having always been the purveyor of true pain and Islam always being the victim.

These cartoons are silly but as a Danish passport holder living in the UK I can not say sorry for a tiny minority of individuals actions. In a perfect world Mr Cartoonist would say "I'm sorry, it was a bit silly wasn't it?" and Mr Muslim would say "I accept your appology can't we just be friends?". This is not likely to happen on either side. We revert to the default previous 1000 years, unfortunately.

I do wish we could just respect each other (I guess as a non muslim I can't understand why you are getting as hysterical as someones mother about a little picture drawn in a little country). When this happens to christianity people may perhaps write a letter of complaint or sing a song - can't you muslims just do the same?

CREO QUE SE HA TRASPASADO EL LIMITE DE LA TOLERANCIA. LA MAYORIA DE PAISES DEL MUNDO SON LAICOS Y EN ELLOS EXISTE LIBERTAD DE EXPRESION, SI NO QUIEREN SABER LO QUE SUCEDE ALREDEDOR, ENTONCES QUEDENSE EN SUS PAISES Y NO LE HABRAN LAS PUERTAS AL CONOCIMIENTO. "EN ROMA HAZ COMO EL ROMANO"! SI MI DIOS ME ENSENARA A SOLUCIONAR LAS COSAS CON VIOLENCIA, DEFINITIVAMENTE ME VOLVERIA ATEA. PEACE AND LOVE! CIERRENLE LAS PUERTAS AL ISLAM YA HAN COLMADO LA PACIENCIA DE TODOS!!

why is so much time, energy and attention being wasted on a bunch of drawings? if everyone put as much energy into solving the real problems of life -- such as hate, poverty, starvation and child abuse -- imagine how much we could change the world! instead we are all at each other's throats over CARTOONS. this is all time we will never get back.

"Lord, what fools these mortals be."

The world is getting lost by bunch of people on charge of mass or religion. They are teaching how to hate or how to conmden the rest of the word.

Only GOD ,Jehova ,Or Dios is the ONE how shoul eliminate the Humans because he created US.The Humans are taking control of things that don't belong to them.

Just because we don't call god in the same way it doesn't mean we are diferent. We are created equals ,don't matter the color of the skin or the hair.

Learn how to love each other , with the same love that we were created.

If Jesus is seeing us it will be sufering more that when he died in the cross.Seeing us faighting for stupid ideas or wrong believe.

Maybe God he's starting to see us as something wrongly created ,with brains but with the wrong ideas on it.

War , dead ,illness ,nature disasters.I see a so much pain and yet a lot more to come over us.Must of them handled by humans to humans. Some of them as a sign of GOD for the begining of the world end.Maybe some people think. "This Guy is crazy".

But just proof to your self.....who is wrong ,who's right?????

The answer.....nobody knows.

Muslim outrage huh. OK ... let's do a little historical review. Just some lowlights:
Muslims fly commercial airliners into buildings in New York City. No Muslim outrage.
Muslim officials block the exit where school girls are trying to escape a burning building because their faces were exposed. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims cut off the heads of three teenaged girls on their way to school in Indonesia. A Christian school. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims murder teachers trying to teach Muslim children in Iraq. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims murder over 80 tourists with car bombs outside cafes and hotels in Egypt. No Muslim outrage.
A Muslim attacks a missionary children's school in India. Kills six. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims slaughter hundreds of children and teachers in Beslan, Russia. Muslims shoot children in the back. No Muslim outrage.
Let's go way back. Muslims kidnap and kill athletes at the Munich Summer Olympics. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims fire rocket-propelled grenades into schools full of children in Israel. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims murder more than 50 commuters in attacks on London subways and busses. Over 700 are injured. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims massacre dozens of innocents at a Passover Seder. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims murder innocent vacationers in Bali. No Muslim outrage.
Muslim newspapers publish anti-Semitic cartoons. No Muslim outrage
Muslims are involved, on one side or the other, in almost every one of the 125+ shooting wars around the world. No Muslim outrage.
Muslims beat the charred bodies of Western civilians with their shoes, then hang them from a bridge. No Muslim outrage.
Newspapers in Denmark and Norway publish cartoons depicting Mohammed. Muslims are outraged.
Dead children. Dead tourists. Dead teachers. Dead doctors and nurses. Death, destruction and mayhem around the world at the hands of Muslims .. no Muslim outrage ... but publish a cartoon depicting Mohammed with a bomb in his turban and all hell breaks loose.

Forgot 200 kills in Madrid commuter trains?

It's amazing where it's going to. In the end of the day, it's the extreme that destroying our life.
Chill out people. No reason to fight, no reason to die. Let's wait for the almighty punishement. From an atheist like myself it means.. let it go... We have problems enough already.

Cheers

Only a pathetic, backward religion could be offended by cartoons as tame as this. Islam has done itself a great disrespect with its reaction and it will take many years to repair. However I fear that there will be a Western backlash against Muslims before that time. Either way Islam is a dying religion.

okay people..first of all, with all the illiteracy that i see amongst all of you, i am shocked. Ironically, if some idiot did draw a vulgur picture of jesus christ you would be surprised to see how muslims would react to that. They too believe in him. Secondly, to the illiterate narrowminded fool who talks about freedom of speech, there is a limit to everything, crossing that limit will have its consequences and believe you me, if the muslims are not kept happy in the world, they will not let others live happily. There are too many muslims to let such stupid ideas go by. Denmark needs to watch what it is doing, and those cartoonists and future cartoonists should becareful, because the day their identity is revealed, or they are found, it will be there last. I agree with the response the muslim world has given to the cartoons. like you said...Freedom of speech, freedom of Expression, why should our freedoms be any lesser than yours?

Just to clarify:
The cartoons caused offence to Muslims, but "Muslims" justifying claims of murder, beheadings etc in the name of Islam causes even MORE offence to Muslims.
these protests have been hijacked by people with their own agendas, who are distorting islam, and in trying to "protect" the respect of their prophet, they are insulting him in teh highest degree by ocmpletely violating all of his teachings about treating one another with love, respect and gentleness, and engaging in CIVILISED and 2 way dialogue.

muslims would be equally offended about any blasphemy or depictions of Jesus, Mary, Moses or any other of hte Sacred Prophets!

The pictures depicting Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him – pbuh) as a terrorist encouraging suicide bombings are not only deeply offensive to over 1 billion Muslims but also to the tens of thousands of people (mostly Muslim) who have been killed by the terrorists. It also presents the complete opposite of his actions and teachings. Fourteen hundred years before the Geneva conventions, he taught Muslims never to kill women, children, old people or indeed any non-combatants or innocent civilians. People of all faiths (or none) could learn a great deal from his life - how he forgave those who persecuted and humiliated him, defended the rights of the poor and oppressed and how he ensured peace and justice for all, regardless of race or religion. Indeed, in today’s troubled world when there is constant talk of war and a ‘clash of civilisations’, there has never been a greater need to understand the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). As Professor Montgomery Watt said, "...none of the great figures of history is so poorly appreciated in the West as Muhammad.”

Last week’s demonstration by a small group of Muslims carrying placards and shouting slogans glorifying the killing of innocent civilians in terrorist atrocities such as the London bombings was also deeply offensive to the vast majority of Muslims. What they were saying was completely contrary to the teachings of Islam and those who thought they were defending the Prophet (pbuh) were in fact acting and speaking in a way that he specifically forbade.

There are many examples from the life of the Prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him - pbuh), demonstrating how he dealt with those who ridiculed and persecuted him and his companions. There are a number of instances of the prophet having the opportunity to strike back at those who attacked him, but refraining from doing so. One such story recounts a woman who would regularly throw rubbish on the Prophet (pbuh) as he walked down a particular path. The Prophet (pbuh), far from responding in kind to the woman’s abuse, instead tolerated it and when she one day failed to appear, he went to her home to inquire about her condition, fearing that she might be unwell.

In another example, the Prophet (pbuh), after having been verbally and physically attacked by the people of a town near Mecca only because he invited them to listen to his message, responded with a prayer of hope and mercy. He had the opportunity to have the people of the town punished but instead he asked God to guide them. This is why God says, describing the Prophet in the Quran, “And we have not sent you (Muhammad), except as a mercy to the worlds.” (21:107)

When the Prophet (pbuh) was in a position of power, he chose the path of kindness and reconciliation. On conquering Mecca with a superior army in a bloodless confrontation, he asked the vanquished people to assemble. Having reminded them of their ill deeds, religious persecution, unjust confiscation of property, ceaseless invasions and hostilities against Muslims for the previous twenty years, he asked them: "Now what do you expect of me?" When everybody lowered their heads in shame, the Prophet (peace be upon him) proclaimed: "This day, there is no revenge against you and you are all free. This day I trample under my feet all distinctions between man and man, all hatred between man and man.” Those who killed his beloved uncle, and subsequently desecrated his body, were spared any revenge or recrimination. He renounced the claim of Muslim property confiscated by the non-muslims, and left without leaving a single soldier in the conquered city.

Sayings of the Prophet (pbuh):

“Do not do evil to those who do evil to you, but deal with them
with forgiveness and kindness.”

"My Lord has commanded me to fear God in private and in public;
to be just, whether in anger or in calmness; to join hands with
those who break away from me; and give to those who deprive me;
and forgive those who wrong me.”

Guidane From the Koran:
'Goodness and evil cannot be equal. Repel (evil) with something that is better. Then you will see that he with whom you had enmity will become your close friend. And no one will be granted such goodness except those who exercise patience and self-restraint.' (41:34-35)

“And tell My servants that they should speak in the most kindly manner
[unto those who do not share their beliefs]…” (17:53)

“And do not let hatred towards any people incite you so that you swerve from dealing justly [with them]. Be just; that is nearest to heedfulness" (5:8)

“And endure with patience whatever people may say [against you], and avoid them with noble (dignity.)” (73:10)

A FEW CLOSING POINTS:

Islam is the fastest growing religion inteh world. to say that it is "dying" as someone mentioned earlier is not only naive, but extremely ill-informed.

However, my question to the Muslims is this: Why is it than when the teachings of the prophet, which are far more significacnt than any silly cartoon, are continually insulted and mocked by todays society, to we sit quietly. However, when someone draws a cartoon, we are all up in arms?...
If you do not know about Islam, you are in no position to articulate an opinion about it.

Do the research; "Islam" means peace, and it is a religion of peace. read about it (from the Koran and the Prophet's teachings). dont rely on what "extremists" are saying. find out for yourself, and make your own opionion. You WILL be pleasantly surprised.

I pray that God guides all of you to the truth about Islam.

I personally support protest agianst rude and isluting depictions of ANY Prophet(peace be upon them all). This is considered blasphemy and definitely not freedom of speech. However, the image of islam that sum ppl are putting forth by burining down embassies and killing people is also not favorable. Islam never tells you to go out on a killing spree for something like that. Extremists are a part of every religion, and it is due to such people who take religion to such an extreme that they begin to digress from the true message of that religion. Hence the actions of such misinformed lunatics cause heavy damage and bring about numerous stereotyes against a particular religion. What the DANES did is offensive, and they knew it very well. However, the Muslims do have every right to express their opinion, but in a peaceful manner, by holding talks, inviting DANES to explore what islam says about depicting holy figures, and i belive by boycotting danish products. But bombing embassies and killing innocent people, will not only aggravate the situation, worsen the already distorted image of islam(which on the contrary prohibits extremism), and make more and more enemies. But brother Danes, please remember, blasphemy is not part of freedom of speech, especially when you inslult the pivotal Holy figure of the fastest growing and second largest group of faith on this planet. Kindness begets kindness. I understand and respect the sentiments of all the muslims but they should be careful of how they express their opinion. And obviously, if the danes think they have the right to freedom of expression by insulting another religion's Prophet, then do not the muslims have the right to freedom of expression while they protest?.....Please, bring peace to the world and not war. Do not act in such provocative manner which could spark such reactions. Thank You. Allah-hu-Akbar.

I grow angry at the continual blanketing of DANES as a nation of cartoonists. There were 12 cartoons, they were obviously only made by 12 people. The only thing Denmark has done is protect their free speech (you can either have free speech or not, I know what I prefer). With a free society you do get undesirable comments but to blame their goverment for individuals actions is disastrous. Denmark has long been seen as a bastion of freedom and liberalism - I completely support the Danish goverments (and the EU's) actions in not appologising for anything. It is not the job of a goverment to appologies for the actions of free press in their countires.

Affan Farooq; the west holds the true power and will prevail against your supposed muslim onslaught for as long as need. You say Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world; who cares? Now all people see is a bunch of angry people beeing extremely hipocrytical (I presume you know about your Jewish cartoons).

p.s. I have been only buying Danish products where possible, I do hope anyone alse with any integrity will do the same.

Actually your wrong. You are lucky to be living in such a great society (assuming you live in Europe) and should not act like that. It would never have even made international news unless some provocative muslims decidied to inflame the situatoin with other cartoons that had nothing to do with that newspaper

I am a Canadian, Christian and Citizen of the world. The hypocrasy of it all is amazing. The radical muslims cry foul, for the insulting cartoons of their prophet, just after they tell a anti-western statement & burn a few flags, or shout an anti-jewish statement& grab a rifle. Grow up, you uneducated infedel!! Maybe they should take another look into the Quaran, and re-read how the jews are their brothers' and should embrace one another. Then we Westerners should also pick up our bibles' and take another glance at it, eh?
